Introduction:
[break]
[break]
So you're wanting to study something new and not sure how you want to start? I've got you. We've got each other.
[break]
[break]
First, it's important to remember that no process is straight forward. I cannot, nor can anyone, tell you what's the most effective way for you to learn. Some people are visual learners, some people learn by doing, some learn by watching. All ways are valid!

Dunning-Kruger effect:
[break]
[break]
Most people study something for a while and fall victim to the Dunning-Kruger effect: That is, you learn a little bit and get over confident in your abilities and either stop progressing or jump face first into project after project and get burnt out the second you realize you're in over your head. This is normal!
[break]
[break]
"How do I overcome this?" Well, you're in the right place -- something a lot of people recommend is to just keep studying, studying, and studying and interface with people who are studying as well! It's important to bounce ideas and concepts off of our peers, as that's how we identify our own gaps in knowledge.

10,000 Hour Rule:
[break]
[break]
The 10,000 hour rule is a phrase that was made popular by author Malcolm Gladwell in his book, Outliers: The Story of Success. in it, he repeatedly asserts that it takes 10,000 hours of practice and study to become an expert at a subject. That's about 416 straight days! In more realistic terms, considering you won't be working 24 hours straight, you're looking at around ten years if you were to practice about 20 hours a week (the average of someone pursuing a topic.) Now, a lot of people get discouraged immediately after reading something like that (myself included) but I don't want you to panic and lose all your hopes and dreams already.
[break]
[break]
Two things I want you to think about:
[break][break]
[break]
[break]
In ten years, you're going to be ten years older. You'll be looking back at the last ten years and maybe think to yourself, "Man, I really should study, x, y, z." or you could look back and think, "Man, I'm really glad I decided to start studying this ten years ago so I can enjoy the knowledge now!"

If you're wanting to track your time studying something, here's a free tool to do it with:
[break]
[break]
toggl.com/ - Track your input and output for projects (input = time studying, output = time using that knowledge)

Progress Tracking:
[break]
[break]
Here is a template I made for tracking progress per session! You are welcome to use it if you'd like, but you don't have to. I just think it's neat. 🥔
You can use it daily, weekly, monthly, whenever!

Make your own thread in the Progress Tracker category and use it to either drop trackers like the below, or resources you're looking into, things you plan to study, reminders for yourself, and post in others progress trackers to cheer them on! We're in this together ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ

Do you really plan to be an expert in the hobby your pursing, or do you just want to get to an enjoyable level of skill?
[break][break]- If you do want to be considered an expert, well...What else are you going to spent those 10 years doing, anyway?
